Upper Dublin

On a snowy Tuesday evening the Archbishop Wood Vikings hosted the Flying Cardinals from Upper Dublin.  This non league matched turned out to be a barn burner from beggining to end.  Archbishop Wood would eventually fall 1-3 in this match but not without a fight.  This was a great test for the young Vikings and they proved they can play with the schools in the always challenging Suburban One League.

In the first set the Vikings jumped all over the Cardinals, taking advantage of some poor serve receive.  They used the momenteum to propell them to the 25-20 first set victory.  The second set would not be so easy, as it looked like UD got their legs under them and jumped out to a 5 point lead.  The Vikings challenged the whole way but eventually it was UD that came away with the win at 25-17

The third set saw more of the same with the Cardinals having game point at 24-19.  Once again the serves of Dave Lehmann proved to be too much to handle and the Vikings tied it back up at 24.  After a time out by coach Maitz Upper Dublin used their experience to gain the advantage and eventually put the game away 27-25.  Wood had some great fight and resolve through the set!

The final set the Cardinals put it into cruise control and finished the match 25-14, taking advantage of a lot of commincation miscuses and unfored errors on the part of the Viking hitters.  All in all it was a great match between the schools and great experience for both!
